Summer in Linwood Cemetery

The summer heat has settled over the area like a blanket, but that is not stopping our 3rd Saturday Tours through the cemetery. Please join us on either June 21st, July 19th or our last tour on August 16th, as you stroll through Historic Linwood Cemetery, led by one of our guides, to learn history of Columbus, GA, and hear some interesting stories of persons buried here. The tours will start at 9:30 am from the Lummus Chapel on the east end of the cemetery. If it is raining, the tours will be cancelled as these are WALKING tours.

On Saturday, June 7th, the Chattahoochee Valley Writers, Inc. will be hosting “Write – On Columbus 2014″ here in Linwood Cemetery. This is a time to resurrect your writing with a self directed walk through the cemetery. The event will start at 9:00 am and end at noon. There will be a $5.00 registration fee payable at the event. If you are interested and would like more information, please contact chattwriter@gmail.com or call 706-563-9807.

Please mark your calendar for Thursday, October 23rd! That is the date for our 18th Annual Fall Ramble. This year the ramble will be themed around the photography book entitled “Linwood Through the Lens: Contemporary Photographs of Historic Linwood Cemetery“.

A little back ground on the photography book: From January 1 through December 31, 2013, photographers swarmed the cemetery trying to get the most intriguing photographs of things in the cemetery. Over 400 photos were submitted into a juried competition, with 150 being selected and included in the publication of a coffee table style book with the afore mentioned title. The finished product will be available for purchase at the Ramble. Then, on October 30th, there will be an exhibit of the photos included in the book at the Rankin in downtown Columbus. The photographers will be there to share with you the inspiration that led them to take the photos they did.

As always, our Lummus Chapel is available for weddings, memorial services, club meetings, family reunions or any other event that you need a place to meet.

If you would like to volunteer here in the cemetery, or would like information on renting the chapel, please give us a call at the Foundation office at 706-321-8285.
