Linwood Through the Lens:
Theme of This Year’s Linwood Fall Ramble
The 18th Annual Historic Linwood Foundation Fall Ramble is an annual event you do not want to miss. Join us on Thursday, October 23, for a sunset ramble through Historic Linwood Cemetery on a tour that will focus on photography. Following the tours, guests are invited to enjoy beverages and hors d’oeuvres in the Old Section of the cemetery.
This year’s ramble will take the form of a tongue-in-cheek scholarly seminar; it will be conducted by the esteemed faculty of the prestigious Linwood Institute. After an enlightening “history of photography” lecture by Dean of the Arts, Dr. Ignatious McGillicuddy, ramblers will be guided through the cemetery by eminent Institute scholars . The guides will offer erudite explanations of artistic gravestone motifs and symbols on tombstones that are featured in a newly-published coffee-table style tome, Linwood Through the Lens: Contemporary Photographs of Historic Linwood Cemetery (Historic Linwood Foundation, 2014).
Tour stops will also be at the gravesites of Columbus photographers of days gone by: John Jacob Fogle, Tiffany Moore, Clarence Gray, Constantine De George, Louis Pacetty and Ernst Jungermann. The faculty will elucidate ramblers on the lives of these early photographic artists and offer insight into the significance of their works.
The information presented by the faculty guides was laboriously compiled as a collaborative grant-funded project undertaken by the Linwood Institute scholars after many years of in-depth research. The tours are sure to prove enlightening – and entertaining – to all who attend.
Tours will start every 15 minutes beginning at 5:00 p.m., and will continue till approximately 6:30 p.m. or until all guests have taken the tour. Visitors with special needs are asked to come to the 5:00 p.m. tour, when golf cart tours will be available. Following the tours, ramblers will partake of a bountiful feast of delicious hors d’oeuvres (prepared by local caterer Jodi Ressmeyer), along with a bevy of liquid refreshments.
Historic Linwood Foundation’s book, Linwood Through the Lens: Contemporary Photographs of Historic Linwood Cemetery, will make its debut at the Ramble. The book is comprised of over 150 black and white artistic photos that were taken in the cemetery in 2013 by area photographers as part of a year-long competition. It will be for sale for the first time on the night of the Ramble.
Advance Ramble tickets are $25.00 for Historic Linwood Foundation members and $30.00 for non-members. Day-of-event tickets are $30.00 for members and $35.00 for non-members. Student tickets (under 21) are $12.00.
