LINWOOD CEMETERY OLD SECTION:

INTERACTIVE, SEARCHABLE MAP

Thanks to CSU graduate student Thomas Chappel, Historic Linwood Foundation is proud to introduce its’ first interactive map – this one of the cemetery’s Old Section.  Thomas began working on mapping the old section and assigning GIS coordinates in March of 2022 as a project for his GIS certification at Columbus State University.  He finished this past fall. In addition to mapping, Thomas took photos of tombstones and entered available burial data for individual graves.  All of this information was combined into a searchable map which is now available at:

https://csu2.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=3901e68ebebd4e21a045d74de18b970d

Please copy and paste this address into your search box.

Once you are at the site, type in a surname in the box at the top left. If there is more than one person by that name, choose  the one you’re interested in from the drop-down menu. You will be taken on the map to the gravesite, and there will be a window with information about the person buried there – as well as a photo link at the bottom of the window.

If you play with the plus and minus symbols at the top left of the screen, you will be able to see the whole Old Section, with all the graves. You can click on any grave and see who is buried there.  Note: Thomas created this map by using a drone.
